Homme grew up in the desert and has often cited its isolation and atmosphere as a major influence on his music. The Desert Sessions, which began in 1997 at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, have featured an eclectic lineup over the years including members of Kyuss, PJ Harvey, Dave Grohl, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, and many others.
