I’m 42 years old. I grew up in a poor family. I have been working since I was 15 as well because I had to. I started saving and investing (I started with $500) when I was 30, I have a 403B, two Roth IRAs I’ve owned 3 homes (my parents never owned a home) and I have zero debt. I work a regular 9-5. My wife retired last year at 39. We are not special. I just took ownership of my finances and lived below my means for years….sounds like you wanna blame others for your lack of discipline.

The waitress and cook here know their income depends on your satisfaction." He had this look on his face as if he had suddenly been struck by some deeper truth. Gobsmacked, I believe the Brits call it. Dawn over Tokyo, we say over here. He also wanted to know about all the American flags. Flying in front of houses. Stickers on trucks. All that. In those days, they weren't flying British flags the way they do now, touting nationalism and British values in response to a foreign invasion. I just told him, "We love this country. It's ours. It belongs to us. The flag reminds us of that. And it's how we tell people that."

KARMELO ANTHONY UPDATE Karmelo Anthony has officially filed a Notice of Appeal following his conviction in the murder of Austin Metcalf. The filing, submitted in the 296th District Court of Collin County, notifies the court that Anthony intends to appeal his conviction to the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas. The document also includes a Pauper’s Oath, in which Anthony swears under oath that he is indigent and unable to afford counsel or the costs associated with the appeal. As a result, he has requested that the court appoint an attorney to represent him during the appeals process and provide the trial transcripts and records necessary for appellate review. To be clear, this filing does not overturn the verdict, grant a new trial, or change Anthony’s sentence. It is the formal first step in the appellate process and preserves his right to challenge the conviction before a higher court. Appeals are common in serious felony cases, particularly those involving lengthy prison sentences. The appellate court will review the trial record and determine whether any legal errors occurred that would justify overturning the conviction or ordering a new trial. For now, the jury’s guilty verdict remains in place, and Anthony remains convicted of Austin Metcalf’s murder. I will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as new filings become available.

Just found out my parents are right-wing and racist. What a great day to be alive. (And no, I don’t share a single one of their values). When I confronted them and told them to actually read up on who they’re voting for, they hit me with the classic: "Oh, it’s just the media painting them in a bad light! Read their manifesto!" I did read it. It’s horrific. The education gap in this house is loud. I’m currently working on my bachelor's and constantly trying to learn, while my parents have the bare minimum school degree and zero interest in looking past their own echo chamber.

I was born poor, to an immigrant single mother, I had a kid as a teen, barely graduated HS, went to trade school (cosmetology), had another kid, worked 15yrs as a successful stylist, went to college while working and raising 2 kids, got a Master's, taught college classes
