Our Andrew Challenger talked to @BBCNews about the latest US jobs numbers. While expectations were shattered, the majority of those jobs were in health care. Meanwhile, last year's revisions showed hiring fully stalled.

Is AI truly driving these layoffs, or are companies using it to explain broader restructuring, correct-over-hiring, or make cuts due to pessimism about the 2026 economic outlook?

“It’s difficult to say how big an impact AI is having on layoffs specifically. We know leaders are talking about AI, many companies want to implement it in operations, and the market appears to be rewarding companies that mention it,” said labor expert Andy Challenger.
