Now that the first concerts are over, rant ahead. You don't have to read or agree, I'm writing this for myself. I'm IN LOVE with BTS 2.0 and their new concert format. It shines a light on them as such evolved artists and so outside the idol scheme it's honestly one of the best things they could have done imo. Not only does it drive more attention to their musical performance but it enhances it. The lyrics shine, and so do their vocals, their harmonies, their instrumentation and conceptualization of the song. Before, having all that plus the choreo was a bit overwhelming and I felt like I couldn't contain the whole entity of a song but it had to be split in seconds where my concentration went from a choreo move to a note to a rap verse to a guitar riff to their visuals to the audience's reaction... so much! These 3 concerts I've been able to hear notes I couldn't hear before, not even on spatial audio on AM, and I've savoured their singing without constant dancing, it's such a different experience. Like when they've done songs like Film Out or Fix You, we can see their vocals/rapping truly shine. And then, when they erupt in dance, the contrast is more marked and it hits you twice as hard and reminds you that they're GREAT DANCERS too. Of course. Is there anything they can't do? The impact of it is ....is like: DID YOU FORGET? Lol I can only hope this format gives them the freedom to do more improvisation during the next concerts. Imagine new runs, new ad libs, new lyrics as Namjoon just did today with Mic Drop, more freedom of musical expression. Because when you're trying to breathe through a tough choreo with 7 other people you need to coordinate your sound with creating outside what's been rehearsed is not only risky but limited in options too. So I'm truly, honestly happy with the change in format. Hopefully, along with more improvisation other things will manifest themselves, like them playing an instrument if they want to, or doing impromptu dancing when they feel like it, or sharing whichever expression of their art they choose on the stage. Viva BTS 2.0 !
