NASCAR's Mike Forde, on Hauler Talk podcast, said they viewed Preece as intentional (just like Hamlin-Chastain at Phoenix, he said he's going to do it). On Kyle Busch, car damaged, SMT data showed steering wheel turned left just to go straight and no SMT data showing intentional.

NASCAR issued a penalty for retaliation at the Texas race, but not the one you may think: Ryan Preece docked 25 points and fined $50k for wrecking Ty Gibbs.
However…and this is obviously going to become a big topic…Kyle Busch NOT penalized for wrecking John Hunter Nemechek.

@jeff_gluck @jeff_gluck, I honestly this it was one of the better races at a superspeedway in the next gen car. Maybe Steve o’Donnell will see how stage 2&3 went with guys racing hard the whole time, and we may see a change.

With 30 to go, there have been no "natural" cautions at Kansas today.
Last race with no natural cautions: COTA 2024. Before that, Road America 2022.
NASCAR went from 2002-18 with no such races, then had two in 2019 and one in 2020 (Richmond). So last oval was Richmond in 2020.

A couple items to note:
-When Bowman did tire test in November, he had the new Chevy body.
-At the wheel force test a couple weeks ago to get last-minute data on the tire and track, Justin Allgaier drove the Chevy. A driver who gets Cup points can't do those but Allgaier could.

The Cup tire this weekend was developed from the test last November (Wallace, Bowman, Preece). It is designed to be less temperature sensitive. OReilly and Trucks are on their same tire. Plan is for same traction compound, PJ1, in same spots in turns as recent races.

Duel starting lineups and pit stall selections for Thursday. LaJoie, CSmith, Mears in first duel; Alfredo, McLeod and Yeley in second duel.

Everyone races in the duels and the lineup is based on qualifying speed. The locked-in cars are split evenly among the duels, alternating on speed, and same with the open cars.

NASCAR going back to 10-race Chase (nine for O'Reilly, seven for trucks). 16 drivers (12-O'Reilly, 10-trucks) based on points. 55 points instead of 40 for race win. Stage points still awarded. No playoff pts. Reset: 1st-2100, 2nd-2075, 3rd-2065, 4th-2060, 5th-2055 ... 16th-2000.
