How do emotional dynamics and social interactions within and between groups give rise to norm violations, emergence and change? What are the implications for pressing topics such as climate change, sexual harassment, polarization? Soon we know more about this! 2/3

"Much of the existing research has suggested that the moralization of political attitudes at a large scale can be dangerous for society and democracy. For example, moralization tends to make people more opposed against compromises, more hostile towards people with different perspectives, and more willing to reject the rule of law,” said study author Chantal D’Amore (@Chantal_DAmore), a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands." - from @PsyPost piece by @EWDolan "New research unravels the troubling link between polarization and attitude moralization" psypost.org/new-research-u…

Perceived polarization strengthens attitude moralization (and vice versa) This explains how non-moralized conflict about topics like climate change or Covid between groups can evolve into zero-sum conflict during periods of intense polarization.
