Just found out yesterday that my rent was increasing by $500!! 5 fucking hundred. Like my heart dropped. Now I have to move in July and cancel my trip to see Beyonce in Paris. Even though my husband is telling me to go I just can’t. It would be financially irresponsible of me. 😢

This sounds like people are wanting to be their own therapist which isn’t possible. For those speaking on access and costs of therapy, there are many free/low cost options and therapists are usually willing to connect people with services they’re looking for!

DC is home & I cherish the diverse people and communities. In my work as a social worker providing 1:1 care across DC and VA, I have seen the urgent need for comprehensive trauma-informed care. I am dedicated to addressing the complex trauma experiences of individuals.

@kors_li @NicoleLewisLCSW I do believe there is value in spaces where mixed-race individuals can share their unique experiences. But gaining wider recognition for such a community is difficult because society still largely operates within rigid racial categories.

@kors_li @NicoleLewisLCSW Race and sexuality/gender identity function differently in society. While LGBTQ+ identities are often about personal identity and lived experience, racial identity is frequently shaped by external perceptions.

Coping skills may not always provide answers, clarity, or immediate relief from certain emotions. However, they can help you navigate difficult emotions and stress while prioritizing yourself.

@NicoleLewisLCSW @kors_li As previously stated, many mixed people already have communities they’re a part of. Not feeling included overall can come from the perception that we do not fit into a discrete racial category. So why not focus on overall acceptance and inclusion?

Instead of asking mixed people to remove themselves, the focus should be on fostering broader acceptance and understanding within all communities.

The expectation that mixed people should solve their feelings of exclusion by forming a separate group shifts the responsibility away from the societies that marginalize them in the first place.

Nov 1. As we step into a new month, take a moment to refocus on what matters most. Set fresh intentions, organize your goals, and let go of anything that’s been holding you back. Remember, every day is a chance to get closer to where you want to be.
