A worker fell asleep at his machine but what his coworker did was more hurtful… The worker arrives, notices the situation, and proceeds to shut down the machine and disrupt the work in progress. He then films the sleeping man, documenting the sabotage. This moment captures a deliberate choice to exploit another's vulnerability rather than offer a simple wake-up call. It represents a breach of shared responsibility, where instead of protecting a teammate's lapse, the coworker chooses to create harm and then frame it for amusement. It reminds us that our character is tested not when things go right, but in how we respond to the mistakes and vulnerabilities of others.

My own title was, “If my friend Claudia is not conscious, then what the hell is consciousness for?” If Claudia is unconscious, her behaviour shows that an unconscious zombie could survive without consciousness. Why wasn’t natural selection content to evolve competent zombies?

The Musk v. Altman trial serves as reminder of why tech leaders don’t generally sue each other: Lawsuits reveal a lot. semafor.com/article/05/01/…

JUDGE TO MUSK: PEOPLE DON'T WANT THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY IN YOUR HANDS EITHER Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers cut through three days of AI doomsday testimony in the Musk v. Altman trial with a line aimed straight at Musk: "I suspect there are plenty of people who do not want to put the future of humanity in Mr. Musk's hands." The judge flagged the irony that Musk is suing OpenAI for straying from its nonprofit AI safety mission while running xAI, "a company in the exact same space," and ordered both sides to drop the existential AI risk framing. "The question here is about whether there was a breach of charitable trust. This is not a trial on the safety risks of artificial intelligence." The bench order came as Musk wrapped two hours of cross-examination. He named Microsoft's $10 billion investment as the moment he believed Altman and Brockman were trying to "steal the charity," and called Altman's leadership a betrayal of OpenAI's nonprofit founding mission. OpenAI's lead counsel William Savitt opened with: "We are here because Mr. Musk didn't get his way." Defense argues Musk demanded majority equity, walked when refused, then sued after launching xAI as a competitor. Musk seeks reversion to nonprofit status, removal of Altman and Brockman from the board, and roughly $130 billion in damages. Trial resumes Monday with Jared Birchall, then Greg Brockman expected next. Altman testifies later.
