Federal judge says he won't interfere with the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors' efforts to terminate Sheriff Christina Corpus. Their hearings with a retired judge are set to start Monday. If the judge recommends her termination, the board will vote on whether to uphold the decision. Corpus filed a federal lawsuit seeking a permanent injunction to stop the process. In this order he published today, Judge Vince Chhabria wrote he "is skeptical that Corpus will ever be able to prevail on her claims that the removal process violates her federal constitutional rights." He expressed hesitance to get involved in an ongoing local government process, and said that COrpus can always sue if she is terminated.

Perez is requesting an hour before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday to make a case for why the supervisors should suspend their Measure A process to remove the sheriff, and let the civil grand jury proceed. Board President David Canepa has rejected the offer. We'll see what happens at the meeting after Perez flies across the country to make his case. Will the board actually limit him to five minutes?

Two major moves in the San Mateo County Sheriff's case: Sheriff Christina Corpus is announcing she wants the Measure A proceedings that could remove her from office to be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. “No more one-sided narratives, or deceiving the residents of this county,” Sheriff Corpus writes. “Let the public see the facts. Let them hear the truth. Let justice pierce the veil of corruption and bring light where darkness has reigned for far too long.” Read her entire statement below. Also, Corpus's legal team is asking a Federal Court judge for a preliminary injunction against each county supervisor barring them from removing the sheriff, calling it “an unconstitutional process”. The motion also asks that Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller have no further involvement in the matter that quote “has been tainted by bias from its inception”. The supervisors are scheduled to respond to this latest filing in one week, with a hearing on the injunction set for August 7th.
