Just play the game. Be scrappy. Make all the plays. Be a good base runner. When a kid comes back, a lot of times they look stronger. That will be the hope.”

Some observations from practice today The defense has so many moving, usable pieces including on the bench. You’re seeing some completely different roles. Cashius Howell got a seven on seven rep today! It’s a much more versatile front seven with new packages. Times are changing. That really helps when, for example, Shemar Stewart isn’t practicing.  The under center theme continues, and it feels like I’ve seen Chase Brown moving around the field even in two running back sets more than I’ve seen before in camp.  The linebackers shined. Even more than the pick, it was the blitz from Carter to set up the pick, or Carter blowing up a screen. Other than the pick, Burrow continues to be pretty perfect. The out routes are cruising. I’d rather be a center in this camp than an outside corner. Dax did make the play of the day out wide for a PBU.  Dohnte Meyers 👀

Same story as Game 1 from yesterday. Edwin Arroyo doesn't make a play, and now it's a different game. The Guardians take a 3-0 lead in the fifth. Singer also walked in two runs as his command all of a sudden got away from him with the bottom-half of the order up.

Takeaways from training camp practice No. 1. Something kind of relatable about the Jalen Davis skirmish. He has spent most of his career opening camp as a third team cornerback. Today, he opens camp with the first team squad. Looking to make a name for himself. A few players and coaches had to tell him to calm down a few times. Ja’Sir Taylor rotated into the slot corner competition with the first team. A big talking point around the defense today was intensity. The defense punched at the ball as much as I’ve ever seen them. The Boye Mafe/Cashius Howell role is the most fascinating one on the defense. Something new to this scheme. A real combo presence on early downs. A different tool for Al Golden to use different looks. Right off the bat, with Erick All making a block, an under center play action chunk play. It’s a card the Bengals are preparing to play. Shemar Stewart really needs reps, arguably as much as anyone. Any missed time is tough for him as he works to make a year 2 leap. He’s also a unique style of DE on this defense with his versatility. Ced Johnson/Foskey are next up. Man, this offense is in an advanced spot from a scheme perspective for Day 1. A well oiled machine with a rare level of continuity. My favorite players were a DJ Ivey PBU out wide, Mafe running down a screen to Ja’Marr and the Bengals trotting out a two running back set.

Good news on the injury front. All of the projected guys on the 53-man roster are going through team stretch aside from BJ Hill, who’s on PUP.
