Taxing at equivalent of 12.5% retains principle of taxing higher abv products more, without any of the administrative burden. It's just pointless red tape.

I get the admin, but I can't help but feel it's 1) just bringing them in line with the importer of any other product and 2) not quite as complicated as they're making out, having seen the duty returns of breweries with 100s of SKUs at different ABVs.

@BeesonOnBooze @JustSimplyLee @TheGrocer The ending of wine easement just brings it into line with every other alcoholic drink in the UK right? I don’t understand why a system that every other industry has used for years is such a burden for wine?

@JustSimplyLee @TheGrocer Its really disappointing, especially the not-listening on wine easement. It would have been such a simple and easy win, but wouldn't get the headlines that draft beer duty does so isn't done. Politics by populism wins again.
