Trey Kaufman-Renn is going to remember tonight fondly when he’s playing pro ball in an Eastern European country with a fence around the court most of the time

Hockey media is addicted to the 1-8 format where you’d get perceived ‘fairness’ instead of guaranteed good playoff matchups. Go look at year by year playoff brackets in the 1-8 era and have a discussion on ‘conference finals’ or ‘second round’ worthiness.
Rachel Kryshak@RachelKryshak

A Pacific team is going to make the Western Conference Final and at this point, it means nothing because the entire hockey world knows that none of those teams are playoff worthy, never mind CF worthy. But hey, nothing wrong with the playoff system, right Gary?

@Zaknoble I don’t know if somebody who never went to the Final Four at Arizona can be ‘underrated’

I’m glad totally unbiased national hockey reporter Greg Whyshynski could carry the water for Jack Hughes to be a narcissistic moron.

Why would it be shocking to hear positive things about Don Cherry on CBC? Especially on Power & Politics, a balanced show where they have a conservative politician or strategist on every single time? Conservative media literacy is quite poor even amongst conservative pundits.
Brian Lilley@brianlilley

Don Cherry used to work at CBC. I believe he was the highest paid person on CBC when they hosted and ran Hockey Night in Canada and that used to rankle some people. Now it’s shocking to hear good things said about him on CBC.

@J_Swish24 I think Canada missing a wide open net was the number one factor but YMMV.

@BasketballPhil Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon both played in the tournament last year. Juxtapose that to the star participation of Americans in the every four year FIBA World Cup.

Ignoring the fact America is currently an awful country that is lucky it gets to still compete in international sports…. Did you see the crowds for the World Juniors in Minnesota? Why would you get to host any type of international hockey tournament based solely off attendance?
Ryan Whitney@ryanwhitney6

Like all hockey fans I’m fired up for the World Cup of Hockey to return but after winning the gold medal in EVERYTHING it’s insane to me no games will be played in the United States of America

@mcclxskey Yes it’s the liberals who have spent their weekend whinging about a hypothetical Order of Canada appointment for Don Cherry.

The Liberal push against Don Cherry and the Order of Canada highlights a profound disconnect between the whiny, do-nothing-but-complain, elbows up (metaphorically only), can’t-fight-so-we-asked-everyone-to-use-their-words-but-now-their-words-hurt-too, kids who used to tattle tale and grew into adults… and the rest of the country who admires, respects, and appreciates Don Cherry.
Bruce Arthur@bruce_arthur

The Conservative push for Don Cherry and the Order of Canada is a politicization of institutions, and it’s no-dummy, know-nothing, argument-starting populism, rooted in false nostalgia. In other words, it’s almost a tribute to Don. thestar.com/sports/nhl/why…
