Sports in Kansas 2026 Legacy Award Ron Baker, Scott City Kansas legend. From a town of around 90 people in Utica, Kansas to Scott City, and eventually the Final Four and the NBA, Ron Baker’s journey is one of the most remarkable in Kansas basketball history. Baker moved to Scott City in 2004 and developed into a multi-sport standout, but it was on the basketball court where his legacy was cemented. The 6’4 guard led Scott City to the 2011 state title under Glen O’Neil, hitting a buzzer beater in the championship game, one of the most iconic moments in state history. That group helped set the tone for a program that would go on to win multiple state titles in the years that followed. Not heavily recruited, Baker took the long road. He greyshirted and sat out the 2012 season at Wichita State before emerging in 2013 as a key piece on the Shockers’ Final Four team. That run launched a four-year stretch where Baker became one of the greatest players in program history, earning All-American honors and helping define one of the most successful eras in Wichita State basketball. He went on to play three seasons in the NBA with the New York Knicks, continuing to prove that belief, toughness, and development can take you to the highest level. Back with us this week, Baker addressed the award winners and our audience, sharing a powerful message on finding a role model, believing in yourself, and surrounding yourself with people who believe in you. A true class act, it was great to hear from someone who once sat in those same shoes. Welcome to the Sports in Kansas Legacy Club, Ron Baker. #sportsinkansas

The MIAA has a new single-season scoring leader for women's basketball. With 46 points in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, Talexa Weeter broke the conference's record of 797 set by Jennifer Harris of Washburn in 2005-06. She has 829 and counting for 2025-26! @FHSUWBB @TheMIAA

Luke Kuechly’s level of preparation should be the standard for every position on the football field. Chances are, there’s someone that’s more physically gifted than you. Taller, faster, stronger, etc. How to close the gap? Film study and preparation ✍🏼
