Not only was The Simpsons episode "Stark Raving Dad" removed from streaming but reprints of the season 3 DVD also omit the episode. Disney's stance is that no one should be allowed to see that episode.

@ManaByte Would the Estate suing Disney in 2018 have any impact?

I would love to see Captain EO posted on Disney+, but the reality is that Disney can't just toss the movie up on the service. It's actually a lot more complicated than that. Disney owns the film, but the Michael Jackson Estate controls the man. It is a classic "legal stalemate" situation. While Disney produced the short and technically holds the copyright to the footage, any commercial release outside of a theme park theater triggers a mountain of licensing issues that didn't exist in 1986. The Footage: Disney owns the actual film and the physical elements. The Music: The Michael Jackson Estate (and Sony Music) owns the rights to the two main songs, "We Are Here to Change the World" and "Another Part of Me." Without these, the movie is basically 17 minutes of silent moonwalking. Likeness Rights: The Estate controls Michael’s name and image for commercial use. A Disney+ release would be considered a "new" commercial distribution, requiring a fresh payout to the Estate. Lucasfilm & Coppola: While George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola likely have smaller "backend" stakes or credit requirements, their involvement is less of a hurdle compared to the music and likeness rights. If Disney wanted to drop Captain EO on streaming tomorrow, they would run into two major roadblocks: 1. The "Commercial Release" Clause When the deal was signed in the 80s, it was specifically for a "Theme Park Attraction." The contracts were never written to cover home video, DVD, or streaming. To put it on Disney+, Disney would have to renegotiate the deal from scratch with the Jackson Estate, which is notoriously protective and expensive. 2. Music Licensing Costs Music licensing for streaming is vastly different from licensing for a physical location. Disney would have to pay a significant royalty for every "play" or a massive upfront buyout for the sync rights. Given that Captain EO is essentially a high-budget music video, the music is the most valuable part of the asset. The only time Captain EO was ever officially shown outside of a theme park was a one-time airing on MTV in 1996. Since then, it has never been officially released on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, or Blu-ray. This MTV showing is likely where the "4K" versions on YouTube are from.

It’s just taken best part of an hour and cost £120 for me to fuel my van in Edinburgh, Scotland, all because American racists voted for a window-licking child fiddler to run the show.

Dunno why everyone's complaining about World Cup tickets. I waited in the queue for an hour, it failed, hit back and it worked second time, then the credit card cancelled the 1st payment so I went back and bought backups, ended up with two lots, some of which may not be paid for.

@TEnglishSport ROG has been bitter and snide about Scottish rugby for years. Don't doubt his ability as a coach but don't want someone like that anywhere near us.

Wouldn’t hold my breath for SRU to do what, I’d imagine, the overwhelming number of Scotland fans want them to do - replace Gregor Townsend with Franco Smith. The SRU think the solution to Edinburgh’s problems is two more years of Sean Everitt. So…

On this date in 1985, 46 major musical artists joined Michael Jackson in the recording of the charity single “We Are The World” with his co-writer, Lionel Richie, and producer Quincy Jones. The “We Are The World” single and album raised more than $60 million for humanitarian aid. #MJHumanitarian

@Chattellly I only *really* know one or two actual fans that were confused for a bit - that all disappeared as soon as they heard that fucking despicable “Keep Your Head Up.” A journalists job is to be curious, not to regurgitate and reinforce company press releases.

Just finished this episode. They released fake Michael Jackson songs after he was killed. And then tried to shut down any dissent against the tracks. They then got sued by a Michael Jackson fan, forcing them to settle and remove the fake songs forever more. Dirty. Listen here:

@TheMJAP The week Breaking News dropped though, there were even fans duped. Unbelievable to me, but those of us who called these songs out were maligned by large sections of the fandom. If fans were hoodwinked by MJE & Sony Music then it makes sense to me the media didn't bat an eyelid.

@Chattellly Yes, agreed. But it also exposed so much of our media - how EASILY they sold out any principles and helped promote such OBVIOUS fraud. And how QUICKLY they went to racism - smearing the Jacksons as the 'greedy Black family' who protested. When they were RIGHT. Gross.
