The Obidient movement started in 2019 not 2022. The movement became a structured group in 2022. Crucially, in its earliest form, the movement was an integral pillar of the Atiku/Obi joint presidential campaign. This historical fact makes the hostility that Atikulates now direct toward the Obidient movement not only puzzling, but deeply hypocritical. They are, in effect, repudiating a movement they once partnered with.
Alongside the Kwankwasiya movement, the Obidient movement is arguably the most genuinely organic mass political movement Nigeria has produced in recent times. It has not been manufactured by godfathers, bankrolled by vested interests, or choreographed from above. It rose from the people, and the people have carried it across the country's most entrenched regional divides.
This is precisely what unsettles its detractors. Some have made calculated attempts to reduce the movement to an ethnic project, pointing to the Igbo identity of the individual who inspired it as supposed evidence of its parochialism. But facts are stubborn things. The movement's composition and reach expose this narrative as a deliberate distortion. Nigerians from every geopolitical zone, every faith tradition, and every demographic have found common cause within it.
The reason is ideological. At its core, the Obidient movement is animated by a singular and compelling vision: a Nigeria where the state genuinely serves its citizens, and where citizens, in turn, invest their loyalty and energy in building that state. It is a social contract, long broken and now fiercely demanded. That idea belongs to no tribe. It is the aspiration of every Nigerian who has suffered the consequences of its absence.
This is a national movement. A movement of the Nigerian people.

The country is a police state. I've always mouthed the fact that what we have in this place is a deliberate and systematic institutionalisation of poverty and other impoverishing mechanisms that keeps the people servile and docile so as to perpetuate the worst of the worst in power. This became pertinent for the comprador bourgeoisie class that run the state because they're mediocre, corrupt and the only meaningful things they posses are ill-gotten wealth and state power gotten through the most perverse means. Thus, all we see is a gate keeping mechanism that makes sure that whomever will access wealth and power in any form must be their ilk and of their stock, even when one is not like them, the gatekeeping mechanism will make sure you're stained enough to look like them. They must have something on you before you're let in. The rest of the people are now pawns in their chessboard used for their morbid games of perverse aggrandisement and gratification. Until the people have the courage to revolt profusely and vigorously, nothing will change in the near future, bearing in mind that nothing sustains tyranny as much as the silence of the subjugated.

I can’t imagine AI making a humorous joke out of my morning rush experience as a Nigerian who boards a bus to work and must interact with various people who are reacting to the current economic hardship in the country in different ways. I and only I can tell that story with some humour attached.
