As a complete competitive Pokemon Noob. I'm learning that you need to start with a team you personally like and then adjust slowly into all the insane strategies.
Grabbing a META team right from the start imo doesn't help learning.

@aboxoftimbits My ex tried VGC during SwSh. I even trained all her favourite mons to their best potential. She got so demoralised losing so much and stopped playing. Only so much one can do with Toxapex, Rapidash, and Dubwool.

Honestly from the perspective of someone who has done consistent coaching the past few years the best thing I can recommend is to absolutely play meta! Well constructed teams help you get a grasp on the game a lot more than venturing out to be unique for the sake of it
