I want to welcome the European Parliament’s decision today to adopt the amendment proposed by a French MEP to ban the use of misleading terms such as “Veggie Burger.” My colleagues in the Parliament have applied common sense in relation to meat content, bringing an end to the confusion consumers have had to endure. I hope that this development will also be extended to the dairy sector, to address the misuse of terms such as “almond milk,” which is not natural milk but simply a plant-based juice. I was not present in Strasbourg for this plenary vote due to a family illness but have always supported the proposal to ban the term “veggie burger.” I will continue to lobby on farmers behalf over the course of the next 4 years on this issue - as it’s “common sense “ at the end of the day and is in the best interest of our beef farmers .
