Enjoyed reading #KGB defector Oleg Gordievsky's hand-written book reviews' drafts in Russian in the Martin Dewhirst Collection at Hoover Archives. Dewhirst translated & edited the drafts for publication. Also, an interesting find: Aleksandr Litvinenko's phone number.

As this #KGB document shows, KGB faked hostile sabotage attacks on selected Soviet nuclear power plants in order to test local KGB security practices. The KGB units involved came from the FCD Directorate "S" (the Illegals' Directorate) & the Department "M" (Mobilization).

👀 In 1989, Lithuanian #KGB asked the Directorate S (Illegals) of the FCD KGB in Moscow for additional 1,000 DM for the operational expenses of their cultivation of the target codenamed GERMAN. The only digital trace of Col. V. K. Umnov, the head of 10th Dept, Directorate S.
