@openbioforge This is great progress. The game is slowly emerging. When it comes to the scripting, did you write a new interpreter for the original scripts or convert them into a modern scripting language?

I have been working on decompiling the game logic script files for #Bioforge . It took a bit of time, but I have it all in plain text now. Now I just need an interpreter 😅. Here are some pics showing a snippet of the game and decompiled versions for Caynan's logic. #retrogames

for better or worse mostly for the better! I've been able to almost recover from burnout completely now, which I'm so hecking grateful for but sometimes it throws me into obsessions that are kind of a waste of time in the grand scheme of things. it also worsens my perfectionism

my ADHD medication has made my autistic tendencies so much stronger like yeah sry the thing got delayed, I got sidetracked collecting, sorting, and parsing transaction data from 2018-2024 to display in a cute graph & had to experiment with boundary conditions of moving averages

@openbioforge Maybe if you lead Caynan down to Mastaba, there will be a reckoning? Or script him to just roam the base and cause havoc among the remaining guards. According to his log, some of them are due for some payback.

#BioForge is a highly scripted game, and so after reversing, much of the effort has been reimplementing the proprietary script API. Of the 188 subroutines and functions used by the f1.01 scripts, there are only 43 remaining to be implemented! #devlog #retrogames #retrogaming

@openbioforge I love to see these updates! Even if they put my own attempts at this to shame ;). So far I have most of the assets figured out and have started looking into loading levels. But it seems that I need to be able to parse the scripts to load collision, which will be a lot of work.

@CadeRageous @qfgbook I always loved games and knew that I eventually wanted to make them. But I think it was seeing Scott Murphy's name in the opening credits for Space Quest 2 that sealed the deal. At 13, I thought some day it would be my name up there. And now it is. Among hundreds of others 😉

The new 0.0.2 version of Ultima VII: Revisited has been released! This is my attempt to write a replacement engine for Ultima VII: The Black Gate. You can download it here: u7revisited.com/downloads/ #UltimaVII #U7Revisited Lots more info below the break! To run this program, you will need to copy the contents of your original DOS ULTIMA7 folder to /data/u7. This will allow the replacement engine to read in the maps and graphics from the original files. Controls: WASD: Move around. Q/E: Rotate left and right. Mousewheel: Zoom in/Zoom out. To teleport to a location, left-click there in the minimap. Press ESC to exit. This is an open source project, which means that you can grab the source files from github.com/viridiangames and build it yourself! You will need both the U7Revisited and the Geist projects to do this. (Geist is the engine I make all my games on.) Make sure they are in the same parent directory so you don't have to fix up a lot of paths. FEEDBACK IS WELCOME BOY HOWDY IS IT WELCOME! @FreyaHolmer My immediate understanding: Convert: Turn existing scene mesh into an asset mesh. Extract: Create a new asset mesh from scene mesh, leaving original scene mesh as is. Clone: Make another scene mesh as a copy of the existing one.

my unity mesh editor can store meshes in two places: 🖼 in the scene, or 📂 as an asset in your project if you want to turn a scene mesh into an asset, I have a dialog, with three buttons: [Convert] [Extract] [Clone] what would you expect each of these buttons to do?

Had some time over Christmas to make some progress on Bioforge reversing. I have a rudimentary implementation of the skeletal animations working. Still some cleaning up and minor bug fixing to do. Then I should be ready to move on to looking at maybe scene loading? #Bioforge 🎄
