If the U.S. withdraws without opening the Strait it would create a power vacuum. Let’s see how well the Europeans can secure it. The U.S. has been the one who has primarily secured this area by U.S. naval and air presence (at our expense). The fact that our European Allies don’t appreciate that fact and wouldn’t even allow us AIR SPACE was Political Suicide . And the very reason Trump told them "go get your own oil," "build up some delayed courage," and secure/patrol the strait themselves. The U.S. will do it no longer. And why should we? if after YEARS of securing it FOR THEM, we can’t use their AIR SPACE or land on our Shared Military Base?
