Chester-le-street riverside park this lunchtime. Spring arrived with 1 Swallow, 7 Sand Martin and several Chiffchaff despite the dull cold day.

5 Waxwing flew from Chester Moor NR and now in Chester Moor pub car park. 6 Brambling and a Chiffchaff in the NR

35 Waxwing in trees at Waldridge Hall, seen from the garden. Mistle Thrush has twice managed to chase them off.

Still 1 Waxwing at Waldridge Fell opposite Waldridge village in Hawthorns early morning.

Autumn! - skein of 66 Pink-footed Geese SW over Waldridge 11;06

Increasing numbers of Dingy Skipper on the wing today at Waldridge Fell. Counted 31 (21 + 10) at the 2 colonies, my largest count yet.

That's Waxwing on my Chester le Street yearlist. Bird still present 9:10 at Thornton Close, Pelton. Also a Red Kite flying around the houses.

Was at the lauch of Durham Uni biodiversity strategy yesterday. @durhamwildlife advised on its development and is looking forward to helping deliver nature recovery across the University estate. Durham is a #NaturePositiveUniversity. How about it @sunderlanduni ? We'll help!

@sedgefred10 @teesbirds1 @DurhamBirdClub It is a nice little spot Fred, The Durham Botany Group did a botanical survey and we gave some recommendations to improve the habitat a few years back.

Finch flocks building up at #Waldridge including a flock of 200 Lesser Redpoll in the birches. Also, a Chiffchaff and this very recently arrived flock of 54 Fieldfare on the fell.

14 Russian White fronted Geese at Rainton Meadows behind P4 in sheepfield but very distant. Also here Barnacle Goose, Peregrine and Little Egret.

A rather depressing few hours at Rainton Meadows NR this afternoon with several dead Mute Swan (presumably bird-flu) and a large amount of sewage in Joe's pond, stinking the area. Mediterranean Gull, Barnacle Goose and 2 Goldeneye tried but sadly didn't cheer me up. @durhamwt
