Gun stuff 33, a series... The road less traveled...a pointless story. I am a lucky man. I have friends with skills I do not possess, though I work on new skills with a kind of mania. More on that in a minute. I fall into guns. Very few of them are ones which I sought out. Most just kind of show up one day. This one is an example of that. A friend of mine came into possession of a Savage 99 (1940 mfg). It had a bulged barrel, so he chopped it back, and put some weaver scope mounts on it. The bore was long past good, so he got bored with it, and sold it on to me. I wasn't rabid about it, but I said fine and dropped some cash. The rifle needed some love, so as time allowed, I set to work. The wood was pretty yuck, years of indifference leaving it sticky and generally tired. A rubber butt pad was present, but rotted and missing bits. The Weaver mounts had to go, they are just about the worst looking mounts for that type of rifle, and then there's the barrel. Too short, badly corroded bore, that had to go. The wood and the buttplate were easy enough. A proper scope mount and period scope (Lyman All American, I have a thing for old Lymans) took a bit longer, this particular Savage was not pre-drilled, and getting a mount to fit the drilled holes took a bit of finesse. The barrel was another matter entirely. Savage used a couple of different thread types during production, and it's not always easy to tell the thread type from an auction listing. Patience here was demanded, and eventually paid off. Remember the friend thing at the beginning? This is where that comes back around. Another friend of mine did the barrel swap, sacrificing his time for my folly. He's on here, and will likely read this. I'm not going to drag him here by name, that's his choice to make, but he knows (or should) that be has my sincere and humbled thanks. The rifle is whole now, the bore on the new barrel is excellent. It's .300 Savage, essentially a slightly stumpy .308. I have to make the brass out of .308, and hand load, but it's a riot to shoot. Not really a point here, except perhaps old stuff can be saved if one is stupid enough, and willing to invest far beyond reason. (Before, with my scope, and after) To be continued....

No horror, no. Just a lazy shrug, then straight to blaming the Jews. Victim-blaming on an epic scale. Bravo, everyone. Really, take a bow for that towering display of principle. Now every Western capital is soaked in the same tired old poison. Jews attacked from Bondi to Britain, synagogues wrecked, shops torched, schoolkids harassed just for daring to exist. In Britain the CST logs another flood of assaults while politicians babble about “community tensions,” as if this is a bit of rowdy football rather than pogroms wearing trendy hashtags. How terribly civilised. The smart set in the media & universities clutch their pearls over “Islamophobia” while Jewish students get beaten up in the streets & Jews are actually murdered. Priorities, sweetheart. Mustn’t upset the fashionable crowd, after all. That would be so awkward. Then we hit absolute comedy peak with the “rape dogs” tale. Some rag prints claims that Israeli forces unleashed trained dogs on ‘palestinian’ detainees for sexual assault. Obvious high-tech warfare eh? We’d never treat dogs that way, of course, but why let nasty things like truth get in the way of a delicious blood libel? It’s so barking mad it makes medieval well-poisoning sound like proper Oxford scholarship. The commentariat just looked away, didn’t they? Admitting the filmed, eyewitnessed Hamas rapes would mean Jews were victims, not the cartoon bad guys. Much easier to invent Nazi dogs. How conveniently delicious for them. History gets flipped upside down in real time, like some bad acid trip. Wikipedia quietly scrubs Hamas’s own charter calling for Jewish murder, rebrands terrorists as “militants” & turns the massacre into a quirky footnote about plucky “resistance.” Oscar-worthy stuff, really. Performative flotillas, Eurovision boycotts, endless UN resolutions hammering the Jewish state while proper genocidal regimes get a polite wink & a pat on the back. NGOs & Amnesty churn out Hamas press releases like they’re handing out free ice cream. Journalists, tucked safely behind their keyboards, lecture Jews on “proportionality.” Proper brave, that. Jewish shops smashed, graves desecrated, Jews told to hide their Stars of David & whisper their Hebrew. Belgium bans religious circumcision while synagogues need armed guards just for Shabbat. Aliyah is booming because Jews have seen this horror film too many times & we know exactly how it ends, with credits rolling over fresh graves. This isn’t protest or policy critique. It’s the oldest hatred on earth, just slapped with TikTok filters & rainbow flags for the kids. Jews blamed for their own dead, called the real racists for the terrible sin of surviving. Useful idiots swallow it whole because hating Jews feels so much easier than admitting radical Islam is the problem & Israel is the thin line holding back another nightmare. Must be nice living in that bubble. It’ll end with more dead Jews if we keep nodding along. Europe can finish the ethnic cleansing it started in the 1930s, this time with students in keffiyehs & politicians waving their virtue flags. What a progressive triumph. History really is just one long comedy show. Enough. The lies are see-through, the victim-blaming is grotesque. At 65, I’m already a relic from a bygone era. An era where the customer was always right. An era where you could speak to the manager and the manager would actually try to help you. An era where if a business made a mistake, they apologized instead of blaming the customer. An era where customer service reps actually answered you instead of ignoring you or looking at their phone. An era where people took pride in their work and treated you with basic respect. An era where “the customer is always right” wasn’t laughed at as some outdated joke. An era where stores had cashiers who smiled, restaurants had waiters who actually checked on your table, and airlines didn’t treat you like cattle. An era where businesses understood that without polite, competent service, they wouldn’t have any customers left. Now, I’m just some old guy who still expects common courtesy in 2026. And apparently that makes me the crazy one. Well sorry kids… some of us still remember when businesses had to earn our money. And I'll never settle for less or reward bad behavior. Am I the only one who feels this way?
