Posted this before but you don't find good targets with data, you exclude bad targets.
There's a ton of players who had good data at one club, moved up and then ended up stinking but very few (like, none) who had bad data, moved up and ended up good

@Statford_Bridge @grantdesmidt Agreed. I personally don't think there's any alpha in creating your own raw event data. The chances that you'd come up with something better than StatBomb raw tracking data is pretty low

@grantdesmidt @ChicagoDmitry I think with tracking there’s a number of homebrewed metrics you can come up with, coding or not, that are probably more impactful and productive than hand coding event data

The other thing that I'll say specifically about lack of accountability is that unfortunately it comes from a very familiar place for me. I've seen this a lot with funds.

Or find data companies with interesting bespoke stuff, where you've scrutinised their data against the video.

Correct - they're both just outputs of a completely degenerate strategy. The fact that one of them turned out better than the other is irrelevant to the fact that the process itself that lead to their hiring is pants

Asked him about his triple substitution of Fernandez, Joao Pedro and Palmer. He says that he has to make difficult decisions that many might not like to protect players after over 100 games.

I coach 10/11 year old girls. For about half of them it's their first year in organised football. Last Sunday we played an U13 team that was on average 2.5 years older than us and I can honestly say we looked significantly more composed and organised than Chelsea today.
