To honor the legacy of those who have given their lives for our country, the Chicago Police Honor Guard Sentinels presented colors and performed three rifle volleys at the 30th Annual Major General John A. Logan Memorial Day Commemoration in Grant Park today.

This Memorial Day, the Chicago Police Department honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.

Members of the Chicago Police Department joined the family of Officer Enrique Martinez at 64th and Komensky for a street renaming in his honor today. Officer Martinez’s sacrifice in service to our city continues to be remembered with gratitude.

The Chicago Police Department will be visible throughout the city this Memorial Day weekend, including at the Sueños Music Festival in Grant Park. Officers will work to secure the event for all who are attending, as well as all those who live and work in the area.

Chicago Police Department officers were posted along the route of the downtown Memorial Day parade to ensure all participants and attendees were able to safely honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

CASE UPDATE: On the evening of May 20, 2026, ATF and the Chicago Police Department, as part of a Crime Gun Intelligence Center of Chicago investigation, arrested Lamont Williams, 37, in connection with the violent shoot out that occurred in the 200 Block of N Washtenaw Ave in West Town on April 4, 2026. Williams was charged via federal criminal complaint with being a Felon in Possession of Ammunition. Williams remains detained in federal custody. @Chicago_Police @NDILnews
