Reports indicate that Mrs. Bright refused to grant access unless a fine of 120,000 naira was paid immediately. She allegedly cited hostel policy as the justification for withholding the key, despite the visible and escalating physical distress Chioma was experiencing. For approximately 25 minutes, Chioma reportedly pleaded for help while her health rapidly deteriorated. The hostel mistress remained unmoved by the urgency of the situation. By the time the door was finally opened, Chioma had already lost consciousness. The tragedy was compounded by an apparent systemic failure within the university’s support infrastructure. After being extracted from the hostel, Chioma was rushed to the university medical center. Reports suggest the facility was devoid of personnel at the time of her arrival, necessitating a transfer to another hospital. Chioma battled for her life in intensive care for several days. However, the prolonged deprivation of her medication and the delay in initial treatment proved too much.
