A very sensible, conventional century from JL Smith (and a helpful partnership with DW Lawrence) is helping to get Surrey off the ropes, despite some very good Warwickshire bowling. It’s like day and night compared to his approach during the Ashes.

Ref Jamie Smith - choosing CC over IPL. Not first time he's foregone riches. Starting out he played Surrey ODC over the Hundred. May not have had a great Ashes & may well be left out. James Rew is high class. But Jamie is class too & whatsmore he's an intelligent, grounded pro.

I was on a pre-season tour in the Cotswolds, many years ago. I’m charging in to bowl, everything perfectly normal… As I release the ball, the (very elderly) umpire lets out an almighty fart. Batsman is so stunned he just shoulders arms in disbelief… Bowled middle stump. Absolute scenes.
