Karen Read didn’t cause the injuries leading to Officer John O’Keefe’s death. She didn’t kill him. So, his death must have been caused by something else. Why do I say that? For one thing, Ms. Read was tried - twice - by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Jurors certainly seemed interested in how Officer O’Keefe died. They cared. But they decided Karen Read didn’t cause it. I believe them. For another thing, I’ve been studying every aspect of this case for three years. Longer than most. I’ve quietly written tens of thousands of words on the subject. I think I know the circumstances at least as well as anybody who isn’t tied to a legal team. I’m comfortable with my conclusion. The Complaint for Defamation (and Other Stuff) filed against Ms. Read and Aidan Kearney would have you believe my view is baseless, irresponsible, reprehensible, and a deliberate, malicious lie. They’d have you believe anybody of a similar mind who expresses their thoughts about this in a public forum is financially responsible for all the woes the plaintiffs say they’ve suffered. They’d have you believe we’re all incapable of our own thoughts; that we adopt and repeat ill-informed views of others by rote; that we haven’t taken the least effort to look behind the allegations to arrive at reasonable conclusions. And they’re saying essentially the same thing about Karen Read. It’s called gaslighting. I think the people behind this complaint ought to be embarrassed about themselves, but clearly, they’re not. I will give them credit for getting it filed before a certain statute of limitations was due to expire, though. Much will be said and written about this - and threatened, I suppose. But for now, consider this: The plaintiffs say (right there in Paragraph 1) that they “are now and have always been entirely innocent of any involvement in O’Keefe’s tragic death.” That’s actualy true. Same for Karen Read. It’s a legal assumption. But I’m still waiting to read the part where they say they didn’t do it. All of this is solely my opinion, of course. You know that.
