Tonight the voters of Catawba County have spoken. According to the unofficial results from the March 3 Republican Primary for Sheriff, with 40 of 40 precincts reporting, the vote totals are: Don Brown — 12,957 votes (80.31%) Willie Armstrong — 1,673 votes (10.37%) J.D. Slape — 1,096 votes (6.79%) William Propst — 407 votes (2.52%) While the results were not what we hoped for, I respect the decision of the voters. I want to sincerely thank the 1,673 people who placed their trust in me and supported this campaign. To the volunteers who knocked on doors, made phone calls, put out signs, and stood beside me during this journey, I am incredibly grateful. I also want to thank my family for supporting me through the long days and late nights that come with running a campaign. This campaign was never just about winning an election. It was about standing up for transparency, accountability, and the people of Catawba County. Those values do not change tonight. Understanding what families go through when justice is delayed has been a true eye opener for me. What I’ve experienced has changed how I view the system in a very real and personal way. It has given me a deeper respect for families who have waited far too long for answers and, in many cases, have felt forgotten. So let me be clear. On my first days in office as Sheriff, we will take action! We will revisit every cold case. Missing persons. Unsolved homicides. Cases that were pushed aside, overlooked, or forgotten. Nothing will be left behind. Nothing will be dismissed because of time. Every file will be reopened, reviewed, and given our very best effort.
