I think it's beautiful that shounen stories depict friendships that are almost love stories. We need stories that keep telling us that friendships are just as valuable and worth fighting for as romantic love. That being said, shipping anyone with anyone is valid and awesome.

Shonen isn't queer dominated, like at all, but shipping culture is heavily queer-centered. It has been for years. A lot of het shippers who enter new fandoms constantly complain about the majority of popular ships being mlm and how people don't care about canon relationships.
