According to @Ken_Rosenthal and @jcmccaffrey, the Red Sox prefer to tackle other areas of the roster and reduce payroll before committing to a free agent like Teoscar Hernández. Also, “several teams have inquired about Yoshida, and while the Red Sox do not appear to be actively shopping him, they are open to virtually any idea as they seek to build a better roster.” Looks like the Red Sox are considering a lot of options when it comes to reconstructing their OF.

.@ChrisCotillo is hearing from a source that “the Red Sox have told at least one free agent target that they need to shed more payroll before pursuing him as aggressively as they want to.” @redsoxpayroll currently has them at $201.01 MM after the Chris Sale trade. The first luxury tax threshold is $237 MM.

Red Sox have designated Ryan Sheriff for assignment.
