The 2026 #Africa Day Cultural Festival grandly kicked off at Chaoyang Park in #Beijing on May 23. Co-hosted by African embassies in #China, the event marks the 70th #anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic ties and the China-Africa Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges.

China on Sunday successfully launched the #Shenzhou23 crewed #spaceship, which will send three astronauts to its orbiting Tiangong space station for new tests on long-duration stay and frontier scientific experiments. The spaceship, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, blasted off at 11:08 p.m. (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA). About 10 minutes after the launch, the spaceship separated from the rocket and entered its designated orbit, the CMSA said, adding that the astronauts are in good condition. The CMSA announced that the launch of the Shenzhou-23 crewed spaceship was "a complete success." The spaceship will then perform a fast, automated rendezvous and docking with the space station complex, and the Shenzhou-23 crew will conduct an in-orbit handover with the Shenzhou-21 crew aboard Tiangong. The Tiangong space station has entered the docking orbit, with good working conditions for docking and astronaut entry, the CMSA said. So far, China has sent 30 astronauts into space. Sunday's mission marks the 644th flight of the Long March carrier rocket series.

Together we have brought to life a story that is close to both our hearts — one of the most significant yet little-known acts of China-Africa friendship in Kenya's history. In the 1980s, the Chinese government sponsored a group of young Kenyans to travel to China and train in acrobatics — a quiet, human decision that is still producing results forty years later. Written and narrated by Esther Wanjiru Kamau herself, the film uses historical photographs of those early trainees, footage of Esther performing in China in the 1980s, and images of the living legacy her generation built — including Zuma Zuma Arts Centre, Jungle Kids Acrobatics Center, Mighty Jambo Circus Academy, and Kids Gymnastics. The film also documents the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the China–Kenya Acrobatics Exchange Program held in 2025, where the first pioneers — who have spent decades training, directing, and guiding the current generation — gathered alongside today's performers and Chinese partners to mark forty years of an unbroken friendship. This film is not about acrobatics. It is about friendship — what it looks like when two nations invest in each other's people, and what happens when those people come home and pass the gift forward.

"Whoever commands energy may well command the development potential and the vital source of wealth creation," Chinese President Xi Jinping told a meeting on fiscal and economic affairs back in 2014. In the face of changes in energy demand and supply, as well as new developments in the international energy landscape, China must ensure national energy security through a revolution in energy production and consumption, he said. Central to his thinking is a question of balance. How to advance the transition from fossil fuels to new energy without undermining the energy security on which China's development depends, while steadily improving self-sufficiency and long-term supply resilience? The country's climate goals -- to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 -- only sharpen the stakes. The solution is taking shape in the vast fields of solar panels, an expanding power grid, and a growing fleet of electric vehicles. China now relies on an increasingly diverse energy mix. While crude oil output remains steady at around 200 million tonnes a year, its wind and solar energy installations for the first time surpassed those of thermal power in 2025. This restructuring has not come at the expense of energy security.
