Lawsuit Targets Costco Over Alleged Automatic Membership Renewals and Cancellation Barriers A California man has filed a class-action lawsuit against Costco, accusing the company of automatically renewing memberships without providing proper advance notice and making cancellations unnecessarily difficult. Plaintiff Russel George claims the retailer violated state law requiring customers to be notified 15 to 45 days before being charged for another year of service. The lawsuit also alleges Costco’s cancellation process fails to comply with California law, which requires customers to be able to cancel using the same method they used to sign up. George argues he would have canceled his membership if he had received a timely renewal notice, and a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for June.
