#WildWednesday This little red squirrel was giving the recreation team a helping hand! Fun fact: During fall when they are gathering food, red squirrels may become covered in the gum that oozes from pine trees.

#WildWednesday Beaver chomp! Fun fact: With their strong jaws and teeth, beavers can chew through a six-inch tree in 15 minutes. A single beaver can chew down hundreds of trees each year.

As birds continue their fall migration, be sure to help our feathered friends. Turning off non-essential lights during migration season can lessen the harmful impacts of light pollution. Migrating birds can become disoriented and confused by artificial light. Photo: USFWS

#TuesdayTip Why do leaves change color to yellow? In the fall, due to changes in the length of daylight and temperature, leaves stop their food-making process. Chlorophyll breaks down, green disappears, and the yellow to orange colors become visible.

#SomeplaceSpecialSunday at Nose Lake! Nose Lake is a 114 acre lake located in the Chippewa National Forest. The lake has a maximum depth of 47 feet.

Take A Hike! Autumn brings waves of reds, yellows and browns across the North Country Trail. The NCT trail passes through the Forest as part of the larger North Country National Scenic Trail. Within the #ChippewaNF, the Trail meanders through 71-miles of forested lake country.

Favorite Fall places and spaces... Migizi Trail: This beautiful trail is named for the bald eagle (migizi in Ojibwe). The Trail circles Pike Bay on a 19-mile, paved loop through big red pines in the original Ten Section of the Forest.
