Why? A third-party web service our game relies on (Epic Online Services) is updating its certificate system. If your PC doesn’t trust the new chain, matchmaking and login may fail.

PSA for all Windows players of Chivalry 2: Starting October 1, you may lose online connectivity if your system doesn't have the latest Windows updates installed.
