When my mum was saved by Britain as a political refugee and moved to England, she didn’t expect British natives to change their attitude to accommodate her. She certainly didn’t expect a handout from the state. The natives didn’t ask for her to come to their country, so it was her role to make it comfortable for them and herself and live like a Brit. She also taught me not to just be grateful but also that it is my duty to fight harder for this kingdom than even British natives because we were the guests who were welcomed.
