@logosoverflow @HaruhiAisaka When I first saw a 'anime icon' years back it did feel odd. But I it is helpful for reaching out to people (e.g. The Japanese) It should be fine as long as it's not used for public veneration I suppose..

I love anime and sacred art, including eastern iconography. However, this kind of image makes me uncomfortable because it mixes two art categories that don't belong together. If it was purely devotional Christian anime art, I would appreciate it and don't feel something is off. I don't believe this is heretic nor blasphemous, but there is some lack of reverence, not necessarily out of malice (which, from your posts, really doesn't seem to be the case). Some people might react with no discomfort at all. Sacred art iconography has a very specific purpose: invite prayer, be windows into heaven, invite reverence, point to the holy and divine. When that gets mixed with anime, which has an entirely different purpose, it loses its purpose.
