My favourite world bird by a mile. Cape Rockjumper. Been to see them more times than I can tell u HOWEVER this visit was by far the best views I've ever had of em. Down to just 1 or 2m & best thing about it I have it all on video...more than likely be my next birding video for u.

@sferguk I keep saying I need to walk that trail, and every year I fail to do so! I hear Narinas in the Knysna Forest, but am still waiting patiently for one in my viewfinder. Nature’s Valley is also supposed to be good place to find them.

One of my full fat lifers this trip Knysna Woodpecker!! OOofff came and went in secs. Luckily I now have 30 FPS at my disposal! Wilderness SA 🇿🇦

@sferguk Yep. The male juvs are the same as the female, and moult into black at around 8-9mnths. Here’s a male just changing into adult plumage.

Birds right in my mate's garden on the farm in Wilderness. Sitting on the stoep drinking coffee getting shots like this, pure bliss...... if ever there was a birding heaven that'd be it.

@ChobhamBirder I had to walk briskly back to the car twice. When groups of men ' appeared' off the beach... you never know but better to err on the side of caution.

Phew... survived an all day visit to Macasser water treatment plant today. Security there is a solid 6/10 but luckily they are doing earth works there so lots of heavy vehicles and crew knocking about.... thankfully 🇿🇦🇿🇦👍🏼👍🏼🐦🐦
