Talked to the FD Chief of the steel plant and declined the Sgt offer due to the pay cut. He's going to check, but thinks he can get me a Fire Inspector/BLS Instructor slot at another plant for a 30% increase over my current position.

Never had a White R*ssian (drink) before. Bartender mixed me a small one to try (gratis). She used American "vodka" since that was the only option aside from Swedish (can't drink that!)

@ChrLup Make it "Houghton-Hancock." (Actually make it most towns in the Western U.P.) Hancock contains the remains of Finlandia University, as well as the Finnish-American Heritage Center and the Quincy Mine.

I have just seen the latest numbers and people are now wholesale abandoning this site, mostly it seems for blue sky. I hope they enjoy it. I am not there and will not be in the future as my time with social media is at an end. Twitter was a great idea but it's now finished.

@Deadwood1888 This man literally came to me hat-in-hand. We had never met, he showed no signs of dishonesty, and asked only for shelter for a few hours in a place where everyone was secure.

A very polite homeless man came in at 0200 and asked if he could stay in the lobby until the buses were running again (0600). He seemed humiliated to ask. Pointed him to a couch and he sobbed when I brought him hot food. I'm humbled my simple gesture meant so much to him. 1/2

@KupariUsa Your Puukko, your carry style. Personally I carry my puukko hanging on my left side. I remember our Staff Sergeant (Ylivääpeli) in the RAuK telling us that ”veto on ensimmäinen isku”, i.e. first cut straight from the draw.

Finns, I find I like to wear my Marttiini puukko in a "cross draw" fashion (backwards on my left side for my right hand to pull it out). Is that a social faux pas? It just feels like a natural way to quickly pull it from the sheath.
