BOOK REVIEW TIME! Also my dog was tired from his walk and I didn't have the heart to move him! 😆
Pebble & Wren by @ChrisHallbeck
I’ve been a fan of Pebble and Wren and Chris' comics for a while so I jumped at the chance of getting my mitts on a book! Of course as soon as it arrived, 8yo sniped it and read it cover to cover. He spent the next couple of days showing me his favorite bits, generally the monster lore, although I personally love the science explanation ones!
Attack of the Stuff by @JimBenton
This book is WEIRD in the best kind of way. Kids picked it up from the library and I didn’t clock the author was cartoonist Jim Benton until after I read it. I read it to 6yo first and got so sucked into the crazy plot that I couldn’t put it down! 6yo was thrilled with his extra long bedtime and very much enjoyed the ride. 8yo overheard me reading and frequently exclaiming ”This book is SO WEIRD!” that he came and grabbed it as soon as we were done. I don’t want to spoil the plot, but if your kids enjoy Dog Man or Captain Underpants they’ll love this.
What’s Up Beanie by @whatsupbeanie
I wasn’t sure how 8yo would react to a book about a pink haired girl, so I was really happy when he stole this one and absolutely LOVED it! His review: “I like adult Beanie the best because she's crazy about puppies and she lives with another weirdo!” Beanie’s comics are always so adorable and well drawn and I loved the running gag of having the various Beanies interacting with each other. Really clever book exclusive perk!
Bumble & Snug by @markbradleyart
I found on Mark on Twitter and loved his art, so when he announced his new book I immediately went to grab it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t available in the States yet, but his previous 2 books were, so I got them instead.
First thing that struck me is how FAT they are. You could be mistaken from the cover that they are next gen Mr Men, with a thickness to match, but these are actually packed with story! The art is delightful and they somehow manage to slip in a good moral, without it interfering with the fun. I’ve actually used “Remember how the pirates were…” and “Remember how the unicorn did this…” to teach the kids something since, which is the mark of a good moral! Only problem is 6yo is asking EVERY DAY when the next book about the ghost will be out.
@ChrisHallbeck it’s cool to see what someone can so with such a simple art style! You’re stuff is so funny, and the comic where the dude solves everyone’s problems with a second toilet paper holder will forever be one of my favorite comics. 73/?
Today is my birthday, and while I watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I’m going to send tweets of appreciation to all the people I follow (excluding orgs and companies) IN ONE LONG THREAD. Since this is gonna be long, I’m going to address my non mutual followers first 1/?
@ChrisHallbeck Hey Chris! So sorry to bother you, but I've been doing a bit of research on meme account networks and disinfo, and I was wondering if you're the owner of the Wholesome Meme account here on Twitter?
Do you think I could ask you a few questions?
