Weeks activities. Planted trees collected from PNW in Jan and grew as cuttings 2 months in greenhouse. Pulled & pinned drip irrigation system! Now dripping at 2g/hr Next week install weather stations in PNW on our temp/precip gradient… Repeat again next year? Science!

@savant_arun First measurements showed a significant increase with temp in June. Noisy and small, but significant. I havent fully analyzed these new data, but appeared like it it would probably still hold and fluxes in hottest plots seemed higher. Plan to check back 1 more time in October too

@ChrisInKnox Interesting! I am curious, does N2O emission tend to increase with a rising temperature gradient?

At the SPRUCE experiment doing some peat sampling and N2O flux measurements this week. Most are very low but a few of the hotter plots are letting off a bit of nitrous oxide!

Fortunately it looks like our datalogger and aboveground sensors survived ( located about 10 ft up a tree), but unfortunately the soil sensors went offline. Guess it must have moved through fast and on the ground. Note the spike in temp ~630PM

2 yrs ago we started putting together project to look at plant-microbe-soil interactions over temp/moisture gradients in Cascade Mts as a proxy for understanding resilience to climate change. Yesterday Retreat Fire moved through a study site near Yakima. Not a good sign...
