Tough one to take and a strange game to analyse. Sunderland were decent in spells. Brighton were good too.
Game hinged on a couple of decisions. Better performance than Port Vale - but need another level on Sunday.
Thought Chris Rigg did well today. Habib Diarra poor.

Thoughts at the break? #SAFC

@SAFCsource @juliesund Yeah i agree. Obviously they have had plenty games lately too. Give the likes of Neil onien patto a game and go again week after hopefully with a near full squad
English

@ChrisL1984 @juliesund I wouldn't even play the AFCON lads now, get them rested and ready for Palace.
English

@SAFCsource @juliesund After the last week or so the amount of games etc you can see they knackered id expect lots of changes
English

@ChrisL1984 @juliesund I was all for full strength for the cup and taking it seriously but in serious need of resting some, physically and mentally knackered.
English

@SAFCsource @juliesund 100% rest the majority on Saturday and go again week after with hopefully the majority back from Afcon
English

@ChrisL1984 @juliesund We'd have snapped people's hands off for 10th at this point with 30 points at the beginning of the season, probably just before AFCON started too!

Since Sunderland last played Newcastle in the Premier League, the Black Cats have dropped to League 1 and back. The supporters have seen it all, lost a play-off final in the third tier, experienced heartbreak and may have often thought a return to the big time was beyond the realms of possibility. Now, they are the beacon of hope for any side in the country wanting to get to the top-flight and stay up, the example to English football. And on Sunday afternoon, another major dream turned into reality.
Defeating the 'visitors' 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, it was a true showcase of how far the club have come. Eddie Howe's side have spent big, play in the Champions League, but it was still far from enough.
Régis Le Bris' team of warriors on the pitch resemble the electric atmosphere created in the Prem's newest fortress stadium. The fans deserve the likes of maestro leader Granit Xhaka belting out orders, flying into tackles and playing Prem level midfielders off the park, after years of suffering in the lower leagues. Cross after cross was cleared out by the likes of big Dan Ballard, the only player in the squad from the FA Cup defeat. Relentless run after run was made down the flanks to steer out of danger and maintain the slender lead. It was a proper derby victory, capped off with a melee to defend keeper Robin Roefs. There was no way the side were letting the lead slip.
#SAFC supporters deserve this victory more than any other. Make that 10 unbeaten Prem results versus Newcastle in a row 🔴👏

@ISimpson73 @SkySports_Keith You mean when we were a mid table championship team with no prospects or anything???
English

@SkySports_Keith Fair enough, but remember how they cried over it 2 years ago.
English

@SkySports_Keith Didn't they slate us for doing this? Now they do the same thing
