I was not aware of the fact that Ireland is spending €8.7bn p.a. on climate-destroying #fossilfuels, so thanks @SeanKellyMEP for bringing it to our attention. While we are waiting on the next corporate payday to upgrade the grid, govt needs to action on data centres now.

Do you know that Ir. spends €1m. every hr. on importing #fossilfuels & that up to 10% of the electricity we produce ourselves from #RenewableEnergy is wasted as the #GRID can’t handle it . Well, thankfully, it’s about to change . Minister @DarraghOBrienTD announced an€18.9 b. investment + €3.5b from Nat. Dev. Plan to upgrade our grid infrastructure. It was good to discuss this most needed investment plan with the Minister & fellow MEP’s @Europarl_EN #Strasbourg this week . When Ir. leads, #EuropeanUnion follows . 👏👏

In Gaza, hundreds of tents sheltering people displaced by the war have been flooded after a storm brought torrential rain to the Strip. At least 11 people are reported to have died, including five killed when a house collapsed in northern Gaza. A baby girl has also died of exposure. The UN says almost 800,000 displaced people are at heightened risk of dangerous flooding.

As Minister @peterburkefg heads to the final #CSDDD trilogue negotiation, @IrishTimesPol has published shocking revelations on the corporate campaign to lobby for EU deregulation, undermine democracy and weaken vital protections for people and the planet: irishtimes.com/world/europe/2… @eviemclarke, co-ordinator of the Irish Coalition for Business and Human Rights, said the internal records revealed “a co-ordinated, transnational campaign to reshape legislation in secret, undermining environmental protection, workers’ rights and democratic accountability”. Trócaire is calling on Minister Burke to side with people and planet, not with the corporate lobbyists.
