Earlier this week 11.5% of NSF staff were fired and now NSF is being dismantled by DOGE. Rumors of a 60-100% budget cut. NSF is the only funder of basic research in the USA. Call your reps and tell them to prioritize basic research and save NSF. nsf.gov/impacts

Air temperature is 55° and the water temperature was 57°. A cold day for scuba diving but we got the work done! 32 acres of bottom surveyed for seagrass in two days. Big thanks to #TNC for helping us out with this. #seagrass #MarineScience #restoration

@djm_MEEG @jebyrnes @Ecology_Letters I see! Yes, I agree that pseudoreplicate isn’t a terribly useful term. Focusing on matching domain of the data/experiment with domain of desired inference is most important thing and a less rigid framework than categorical definitions based on independence.

@LifeAfterMyPhD If you read the article you’ll see that the prof admits to feeling wracked with anxiety and guilt over the incident. This read like a confession they are trying to make amends for. I think it’s very self aware and apologetic, a reflection piece.

@bielleogy @jebyrnes Faculty myself and I support the push to increase wages, but this didn’t read as a scare tactic to me, it read like a boiler plate university memo designed to provide transparency for how the university intends to handle paychecks for strikers. I’d want to know this if striking.

@Jon_Chase03 @Nature @idiv @PunksInScience Is that headline primarily a function of the historically more abundant taxa having relatively more population to lose? Or is there a more ecological explanation for the pattern?
