I’ve accepted it. Not because I believe in it - but for my own sanity. Michael Carrick will most likely be here next season. But let me say this clearly for those expecting a “new version” with signings… Nothing is going to change. Not because the players won’t be good enough. But because this is how he plays. Go back to Middlesbrough - same football. Go back to his time under Ole Gunnar Solskjær - same patterns. Sit deep. Stay compact. Wait for moments. Counter. That’s the identity. And identity doesn’t change because you buy new players. You can upgrade profiles… But you can’t upgrade ideas. So don’t expect control. Don’t expect dominance. Don’t expect a team that dictates games. Expect what we’re already seeing. Underdog football. Reactive football. Moments over structure. And here’s the uncomfortable truth… If this is the direction, then we’re not building to compete - we’re building to cope.
