This from T J Clark and @kunstmuseumbs is a wonderful lecture - aesthetic dignity & aesthetic austerity and the moment understatement takes on a peculiar force...a ferocity of refusal. youtube.com/watch?v=P3aPjR…

A UN report has found the actions of the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary, in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, bear the ‘hallmarks of genocide’. Thousands were killed and raped over the course of three days in October, after an 18-month siege by the RSF. They targeted non-Arab communities particularly the Fur and Zaghawa groups. The Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the findings were ‘horrific’ and called for a ceasefire in the war between the RSF and Sudan's Armed Forces. A warning, this report contains very distressing details.

What did liberty mean before liberalism? In @LRB, Colin Kidd reviews Quentin Skinner’s 'Liberty as Independence', a powerful account of how republican ideals of non-domination gave way to modern notions of non-interference. Read more 🔗 cup.org/3GLscVw
