Guelph (3) has shut out Waterloo (6) 2-0 to advance to the semifinals at the National Championship. Katherine Heard opened the scoring in the first period, and Katy McKenna scored the empty-netter late in the third period. Martina Fedel made 26 saves for the shutout.

U SPORTS news: Concordia beat Manitoba 3-1 today in the quarterfinals of the National Championship, and will move on to the semis on Saturday. Audrey Clavette scored her first career U SPORTS goal, while Jessymaude Drapeau scored twice. Jordyn Verbeek made 23 saves in the win.

Northeastern goaltender Lisa Jönsson has been named the NCAA Elite Scholar Athlete Award winner. The award “honours the student athlete with the highest GPA at each NCAA championship.” Jönsson is majoring in Economics and Business Administration, and has maintained a 3.918 GPA.

UConn’s Tia Chan has been named the HCA Goaltender of the Year, and check out this stat line: 27 wins, 1.55 GAA, .951 SV% and 1,122 saves. I’m exhausted just reading that. Another incredible season for Chan. Super impressive.

@LucNad5 Agreed, and I’m concerned that at the end of the year, when the Charge miss the playoffs, they’ll look back on all those points they left on the table. And to say that you’re happy with the start to that game? I’m not sure we watched the same game.

@ChrisSinclairrr Coach can’t spin it any other way. It was a bad game all around. What’s concerning is the inability to win in regulation on the road and also to adapt to other teams and their systems. The Charge play the same way while opponents outplay and outwit them.

Here is the full post game quote from Ottawa Charge head coach Carla MacLeod. I’ve always appreciated MacLeod’s positivity, but I have to be honest and say that I wholeheartedly disagree. The Charge did not show up last night, nor could they have been happy with that game.

Hilda Svensson (Ohio State) and Sara Manness (Clarkson) have been named the co-winners of the Julie Chu Rookie of the Year. Svensson fit into the NCAA so well and performed well at the Olympics. Manness absolutely cleaned up at the awards, and deservedly so.
