@breannetidemann We go 24" and all our rigs are on trucks. I used a side by side mount for a couple of weeks many years ago and struggled to consistently get even a full 6" sample in hard dry soils.

@chinookag @FungusAmungus3 Powdery mildew usually arrives last week of August to first week of September. If you want an indicator of exactly when it arrives plant some pumpkins. They go from perfectly lush and healthy to completely dead in a matter of like 3 days.

@FungusAmungus3 Might be something to look more closely for certain! 4th year in a row for me and seems very widespread this season.

Another year, another swather covered in powdery mildew @FungusAmungus3. It's a real pain even if there is no supposed yield penalty. Caked air filters, cab filters and radiator. Comes off with diligent pressure washing only. Widespread east to Carbon this season #canola

@Megarhyssa You're not going to find much land NE of Red Deer that's in Red Deer County. I'm straight east of Red Deer but I'm in Lacombe county. I could give you some fields if that's where you want.

@chinookag Good for you. We started early August. Yields are 30-50% of normal and horrible bushel weights. Wheat was most below average, surprisingly barley was least below average. Just a couple canola fields left, one hailed and cut last Wed. and one we left standing and didn't spray

@ChrisSolick Cereal yields so far strong average with good bushel weights, canola sample was below average on yield monitor.

At least one crop enjoyed the July heat. Didn’t think the #sweetcorn would amount to much back when it was ankle high on the 4th of July.

@MrPopcornGuy Do you use a growth regulator or anything to keep the plants short? My backyard tomatoes grow monster vines but less fruit than your more compact plants. Your fruit to vine ratio is amazing!

How's your canola crop in SK, AB? I don't think the #canola in my area of #MB is going to break any records.

My son gave up on the #Flames and jumped on the #LetsGoOilers bandwagon. I promised him a ticket to an @EdmontonOilers game if he does chicken chores for 100 days in a row. He's on day 11 with no sign of quitting...

@SolickSeeds @trntclark @o2farms_sk Most of the Alberta soil survey work was completed in the 60's and 70's. I think it is a good indicator of soil classifications, however we are much better at managing soils today than we were then. I think your own historical soil test and yield data would be a good indicator

Just reading through some of the info on this proposed solar project on some of our rented land. Having a hard time buying that this is class 3 soil. Does anyone know the process of getting or requesting a current soil classification? Over the past +15 years it's improved a lot.

I know this is a super long shot, but currently have family members stranded with a broken down car in a small town of Dubois, Wyoming. Just thought I'd toss out if there's any connection could be made to any kind of mechanic in that area that could possibly help them.

@APGExtension @RustyStinn I think discrepancy is this reports historical average and we're well below historical averages. Also, this is to 120 cm. Because we seeded into good topsoil moisture in early May roots didn't go super deep this year. This crop hasn't got to 100 cm yet and likely never will.

@RustyStinn @APGExtension I agree. The 2 maps on the right for our area have it correct in listing us as 12-24 year low. Map on the left says we're near normal which is definitely not the case.

@APGExtension The problem with this kind of information is that it lacks data that soil moisture reserves were at ridiculously low levels and there was relatively no soil moisture reserves!

@SolickSeeds Yeah, I think when flag leaves are so crispy you can crush them in your palm with hardly anything in the kernels yet I think the fat lady has definitely sung on 2024 crop. Good thing we added bin capacity this year!

@Agronomydoc Wheat around here looks like that. This area it's pretty simple. 68.4 mm total growing season precipitation and heat. Very little disease. Barley and peas look the same, canola is turning orange. No water + heat = garbage crop. Your area might be different situation.

Keep a close eye on your #wheat. Reports of rapid senescence and/disease. My own durum plot here was clean last week. Just heat stress? Bacterial wheat streak? All of the above? Stay tuned.

@HobbyFarmerMatt Lucky! Only 17.6 mm here. A bit disappointing for a heavy rainfall warned storm.

As much as I like irrigating, I'd rather not! Perfect timing and broad geography got a beautiful rain just ahead of reproduction. #rainrollcall
