If I run for mayor of Durham: More affordable housing, more public transit, safer biking, more walkable neighborhoods, less sprawl, more density, more public art projects, sensible growth. Got Units?
Sarah Krueger@WRALSarah

Breaking: #Durham’s mayor, Elaine O’Neal, tells me she will not be running for re-election. She said she wants to focus on family. @WRAL

If @DurhamPublicSch has a bus driver shortage it seems to me the best solution is to start training the folks that sit in central office how to drive school buses.

@ryxcommar I agree with the OP 100% Boolean is really the worst, least informative data type. Should be avoided at all cost.

I've watched a lot of previously normal accounts on X morph into engagement farms. I get why you all did it, but don't you want a real identity? Your personal brand is basically just Yahoo news now. Anyway, back to bsky.

@VicVijayakumar Is baklava always cut at an angle like that? I don't think I've ever seen it in sheet pan form

for no particular reason my aunt makes baklawa for thanksgiving every year don’t know how it started, we aren’t Persian or Turkish, but her baklawa is superior to any other I’ve eaten

@VicVijayakumar Took calculus for engineering in college. Incredibly challenging. Many friends took the "social sciences" calculus series. Far easier.

When someone says “calculus was easy” I assume their major only required them to take calc 1 🥲 I took calc 1 and 2 in high school, thought I had beat it, and then they told me I needed calc 3 to graduate. Then again, maybe all calculus is easy for some people.
Austen Allred@Austen

Look, two things are true: 1. Calculus is among the easiest of classes for some majors 2. There are many majors that don’t have a single class as difficult as calculus

Extremely niche marketing Twitter question: What lead list do you have the hardest time getting your hands on?

Did such a good job pre-cleaning the house before the cleaners come over that now I’m wondering if I should cancel

Everybody is hating on this but... From a marketing perspective it's objectively a wild success. Look how much people are talking about and engaging with Jaguar. Not sure if it was intentional, but I'd still call it a success.

@xurbanxcowboyx I don't understand why you're conflating this problem with YIMBYs. This is a failure of the city to provide enough community support for the shelter.

This /r/austin post is a good example of a tough problem I think more urbanists and YIMBYs need to think about.

Today we made the decision not to apply for Durham Academy for my son. It’s an excellent school and I think he’d learn so much there but ultimately I want him to attend public school. I went to private schools my entire life (K thru grad school) and I feel like I was sheltered

This is either a lie, or these companies lack very basic reporting of code commits. Github does this kind of reporting right out of the box. Not buying this is a pervasive thing. I've never been anywhere where this would fly.
Deedy@deedydas

Everyone thinks this is an exaggeration but there are so many software engineers, not just at FAANG, who I know personally who literally make ~2 code changes a month, few emails, few meetings, remote work, < 5 hours/ week, for ~$200-300k. Here are some of those companies:

95% of Excel financial models are absolute trash. Waaay too many inputs. Run a sensitivity analysis to understand which inputs actually drive outcomes. You'll find ~5 variables drive 95% of the bottom line. Focus on those and use "other" as a generic bucket for everything else.

@VicVijayakumar I can't tell you how often in my professional life coworkers fiercely argue to develop a process for something that has never happened. I used to entertain them and now I just say "let's solve the problems we have, not the ones we don't"

@nickmepp @jasoncoxnc Distinction without a difference. Watch city council meetings. Those policies are all thinly veiled (and in many instances not veiled at all) supply restrictions. City Council members and residents say *out loud* that they favor these policies because they stop new housing.

@ChrisUnits @jasoncoxnc all of these are meant to address things beside supply. i get that those obviously all result in reducing how many buildings/units are built, but i'm curious about the explicit statement of intent everyone assigns to govt regulations

Jason,
Jason,@jasonc_nc·
In cases of war/famine a key crop like rice or wheat is restricted. Supply goes down, demand stays same but there isn’t enough. Those who can afford a higher price do so. Those who can’t are left w/ whatever they can get, even if it’s a lesser option than prior. That’s housing folks. Except the famine is intentional and constant.

@nickmepp @jasoncoxnc Is this a real question? Do you have any background on this topic or are you just talking? Floor area ratio restrictions, impermeable surface limits, maximum dwelling units per acre, non-residential zoning, etc. Effectively every city in America has these.

@jasoncoxnc can you show me where regulations on the building industry are specifically designed to restrict supply?
