The reactions to #Caskets have been a truly surreal and beautiful thing to see. I feel like we all just had one big therapy/cry session together, and it’s an honor to be a part of helping so many people have this cathartic release of pain.. pain that they may have been holding onto without even realizing. We’re sorry for making you cry on camera, but sometimes we all need an extra push from outside sources to help us face the feelings we might be neglecting deep down.. that’s what my therapist told me at least lol.. Music is a powerful thing, and us #Inpatient boys do not take that responsibility for granted.. Everybody has lost somebody, and it’s never easy. I’m normally the type of person to push the pain down and keep moving without taking the time to truly process my feelings.. or even cry. Whether that’s some sort of survival tactic I’ve developed, or the side effects of a society that’s reinforced this “suck it up and be a man” mentality, or maybe a bit of both .. I know it isn’t healthy. What I will say, is that I teared up multiple times while writing the treatment for this video. More times while watching it in final form. And then even more times watching people react and cry to it themselves. So thank you to Ren, JP, Rook, everyone else involved in the video, and all of you at home reacting and sharing your own personal stories of loss.. Thank you for making me feel a certain type of vulnerable and truly human that I haven’t felt in quite some time. And prayers up for the ones we’ve lost. The best of music is meant to make us feel something. Be it joy, confidence, anger, sadness.. the very things that remind us we’re human in this increasingly synthetic world. There isn’t a more universally human experience than the loss of a loved one, and with that loss, the feelings that we each process in our own ways as we try to pick up the pieces and carry on. On this next #Inpatient song, @Renmakesmusic really took me into his world musically. As much as I’ve really found and experimented with my singing voice over the past several years, I know my limitations. Ren pushed me to step past those limitations. While him and @JPONDATRACK (whose production here is immaculate), carry the bulk of the weight on this one, I was happy to tag along on the very first ballad I’ve ever been apart of. With that said, I carried my weight in a different way by mobilizing the entire might of the Webby visual team to bring you a music video that turned out feeling more like a short film. No corners were cut, no expenses spared, and finally seeing the final product, I’m damn proud of what we put together. I showed it to a group of friends the other night and two girls actually left the room crying. Like I said in the beginning of this caption, the best of music is meant to make us feel something. When we all sat down to make this #Inpatient album, I told the fellas I really wanted to make an anthem for the #Neurodivergents of the world like us.. What some call a disorder I’ve learned to call a superpower. Having ADHD was a huge piece of my childhood (to the point I named my label EightyHD) .. then much later in life come to find out I’m mildly autistic too .. My brain is all sorts of confusing and often times frustrating, but i’ve learned through life that its unique design comes with certain super powers as well. Be empowered by your differences, not defined by them. This one’s for my fellow mental misfits out there !! Another amazing tour in the books !! Thank you to all the fans who pulled up and gave us that pure, unadulterated energy. It’s an honor to still be out here performing for you all these years later.
