Here's a balanced view: It appears the family does own or has recently acquired a high‑value farm (or is very likely to have done so) in the £6‑7 million range. Given that, the narrative that they are on the brink financially or have no way to pay a tax bill seems overstated or at least not fully supported by public evidence. However: owning a high‑value farm doesn not necessarily mean they have the liquid assets to pay a large inheritance tax bill immediately, especially if the value is tied in land, property, equipment, or other non‑liquid assets, and if financing or debt is involved. So the “asset rich, cash poor” scenario could apply. It’s also possible the threat is real: if the family business has limited cashflow, and the upcoming tax changes bite, the farm’s continuity could be impacted, as Cameron claims.
